Welcome to Elite Architectural Ironmongery

Connaught Hotel

The Connaught Hotel is a Grade II listed building, constructed in 1897 in central Mayfair. The hotel has a unique reputation for delivering a reverent level of service and acting as a home away from home for the social and cultural elite.

In 2007, the Connaught Hotel underwent a major refurbishment; this was completed in two stages. The first phase was the refurbishment of the main hotel to bring it in to the 21st century. The second phase was the construction of a new west wing, increasing the capacity of the hotel by 50%. The building, with its small footprint and location in central Mayfair, posed a logistical conundrum. Grosvenor Estates, Westminster City Council and powerful neighbours all had to be appeased to secure a workable solution for all parties.

Elite were commissioned to supply the complete ironmongery package for the new west wing of the Connaught Hotel. We worked with Ellmer Construction with tight delivery schedules to ensure the whole project was handed over on time in 2010. Elite worked closely with the designers to find a solution which fitted in to the high end interior design.

The new west wing, designed by Blair Associates, is built over a basement 12.5 metres below road level split in to three levels housing the new state of the art health spa, fitness suite and swimming pool plus additional banquet rooms and conference facilities. Rising above the basement is a further nine floors containing an additional 33 suites. No two guestrooms and bathrooms were the same with a great deal of precision required to cope with the detailed, no tolerance design. The guestroom floor fabric was reconstructed and the space fitted out to designs by Oliver Laws, Phillip Rogers and coordinated by the Architects Blair Associates.
